Prior to joining the ZHAW School of Management and Law, Dr. Max Schweizer served in the Swiss diplomatic corps for more than thirty years. He was Deputy Permanent Representative of the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (EDA) at the Permanent Mission of Switzerland in Geneva to the WTO (World Trade Organization), EFTA (European Free Trade Association) and UNCTAD. During his eventful career Minister Schweizer was posted as Swiss diplomat to Africa (South Africa), Asia (Saudi-Arabia, Turkey) and Europe (Finland, Baltic States, Spain).
He studied Geography, History and Political Science at the University of Zurich, where he wrote his doctoral thesis. He holds an honorary doctorate from the Technical University of Kaunas, Lithuania and is a Visiting Professor at the Beijing Institute of Technology, Zhuhai (北京理工大学珠海学院).
Since the 1st of August 2015, he has his own company: "DR. MAX SCHWEIZER FOREIGN & ECONOMIC AFFAIRS".
Since summer 2015 he also acts as President of the SwissDiplomats - ZurichNetwork.
